The self-proclaimed "Dean of American Rock Critics," Robert Christgau was one of the pioneers of music criticism as we know it. And gives Grant's new record a listen....
Executives from Dollar General, The Family Dollar, The Dollar Tree and The Dollar Store met this past weekend at a casino in Biloxi Mississippi. They announced this morning that ---in light of new US tariffs imposed on China---they would collectively, and in unison, change the names of their respective stores to Three Dollar General, The Three Dollar Family, The Three Dollar Tree and Three Dollar Store. Upon hearing of this news, Donald Trump immediately reported that “this is really QUEER no doubt about it.”
I am announcing today that I will seek the office of the presidency of the United States of America in 2020.
My platform is simple and straightforward:
If I am elected, on the morning of the day I am sworn in, the U.S. will officially declare war on the sovereign nation of Canada. And then that evening, the U.S. will officially surrender to the sovereign nation of Canada.

Grant Peeples (folk singer, Uber driver, poet, land-clearer, artist and AirBnB host)
I’m weary of trying to continue to word-my-way into some sort of clarity about this imperiled planet, and the sickening breed intent upon its ruin. My former ruse---assonance and alliteration---seem not to hold the water that once floated my messy, mixed-up metaphors. So…my creator-fuse is soddened this mornin’
So be it.
All literature will soon enough be stardust.
It is waste of good fishing time.

Grant Peeples & the Peeples Republik: Settling Scores Vol. II
(review by Bill Glahn)
The title track of Grant Peeples last album, “A Congress of Treasons” was a spoken word piece that appeared last on the album. “Ever since I was a kid, all I really wanted to be when I grew up was a traitor – a spy for the other sides,” starts Peeples. He continues with a narrative about a plan to sabotage the “shopping carts of oppression” and recognizes that revealing those intentions have consequences. Yet “here I go again…” It’s a good starting off point for Settling Scores Vol. II.

Three Songs of Easter
In tribute to those
who freaked-out that morning
when they found the big rock
had been pushed from the door
of a presently empty tomb
who rather that rise-up in arms
to right the grievous wrong
knelt and wept and cowered
and began working on a narrative
to assuage their guilt of complicity
and that would ultimately become a Gospel…
I submit to you
written over a period
of ten years
Jesus was a Revolutionary
Treason is the Reason
Just the other day I was getting out of the car in the rain, in front of my house, when my dear friend Eleanor Dietrich saw me and pulled over at the curb. Eleanor was the muse for my song “She was a Wildflower.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=3&v=fVPWctCxu5c
She is a magnificent, wise woman, with an encyclopedia knowledge of wildflowers, and the natural world at large. I hopped in her car for a quick visit, while the windshield wipers flopped back and forth.
Eleanor told me a story about this Florida County (to protect her, and the flowers, I won’t name it) where the county commission had voted to squash even the most non-aggressive ordinances that limited roadside mowing, and during the very time rare wildflowers were in bloom. She said that one of the commissioners has told a friend of hers: “You can’t give these environmentalists anything. Cause if you do, they are going to want more and more and more, until they take over the whole county.”
The reasoning here is based, of course, on the argument made by the Lord Jesus Christ, when he said: “I know you’d like to feed the poor. But if you do, they are just going to get hungry again, and then want to move in your house and have you feed them every meal.”
This is my house. This is a wall that is next to my house. Today my friends Matthew and Karen came by and installed this artwork. On this wall. I’m sure you understand the irony of the wall. Anyhow this is just the beginning. I’m going to be getting artists to come build the wall.
So….I’ve got a new web site. And on the web site is this place called “Grant’s Rants”
I wanted to call it “Grants Rants, Reasonings and Musings” but my, um…’digital consultant’ says there’s not enough room on the ‘bar’ (whatever the hell that is) to put all of that there. That’s right: I got a new web site, and before it gets rolling good I’m chest to chest with a restriction.
In any case, we’ll just stick with ‘Grant’s Rants’ because of my love of assonance. I will be posting and stashing a lotta ‘stuff’ here. There will be poems and pictures and songs and videos and chronicles of my conditions of production. Hopefully not many purely unadulterated rants.
Please join the feed. Stay tuned in. This is me trying to stay connected to people who ‘get’ what I’m trying to do with my work. And my life. And who have an interest in my artistic vision.
