1973 I heard a song by Dave Hickey called "Double Die Damn" 25 years later, this came out
Patriot Act for Dave Hickey
I’m no church going, bulldozing, deal closing real estate yo-yo
I’m no look-at-me S.O.B. gassing my Humvee to work
I’m no right-winging, scotch drinking, golf swinging dick around town
¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬But them’s the men we got now, and I’m ‘fraid things are gonna get ugly.
My disillusion and utter revulsion
Are fueled by recurring notions of peril and regret
But there’s a knife between my teeth, and a gun below the seat
And I’m picking up speed as I see what we need to do next
Well and I’m not afraid of loosing my religion
I’m just carrying on an American tradition
Got a hand on the plow, and a dog in this fight
There’s sweat on my brow, I keep my eye on the prize
Wanna stop the Machine, stop it dead in its tracks
And call it a Patriot Act. Yea, call it a patriot act
I’m no flag waving, queer hating, tax breaking Ronald Reagan cowboy
I ain’t no rich living, bitch loving son of Republican sex
But when I look around this town, well that’s ‘bout all there are now, boy
Time to re-roll my bed-roll cause I’m ready to take the next step
Oh, my aversion to their greedy ambition
Has now led to this fateful decision to cross over the line
I’m gonna shake out some gas, and pitch in a match
Leaving black smoke and ash along the highway behind.
Cause that’s how a patriot should act
