THERE’S A BLUEBIRD IN MY HEART     for Charles Bukowski

There’s a bluebird in my heart
And he’s trying to get out
All his songs have these sad melodies
He’s begging me to set him free
But, man,  I can’t do that just right now
Yea, there’s a bluebird in my heart
And he ain’t getting out.

Oh, When I get worn and weary
I find comfort in the sound
Of the songs I hear my bluebird sing
And its like a light at the end of the tunnel
Its like the sun cutting through the cloud
There’s a bluebird in my heart
And I just can’t let him out.
Well, he cries sometimes but in my mind
His tears are only rain
And I keep a chain around my heart
So he can’t fly away

There’s a bluebird in my heart
Singing songs he has found
And we’re the only ones who know the tunes
But wants me to set him free
And I can’t do that just right now
There’s a bluebird in my heart
And I just can’t let him out.

He wants me to set him free
But I still need him with me now
There’s a bluebird in my heart
And I’m never gonna let him out
